Chelmsford Day Opportunities

Day centre's for young adults with learning disabilities, autism and profound and multiple learning disabilities

The Independence Project strives to support as many individuals as possible with the firm belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to live the most independent and fulfilling life. By providing care, support and activities we aim to improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing and development of young adults with additional needs, and maximize their opportunities.

To achieve this, we work across two services, the base (for young adults with learning disabilities and autism) and the hive (for young adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex health needs. This enables us to tailor the facilities and activities specifically to the needs, abilities, and ages of those that we support. This also ensures each of our members can embark on their independence journey alongside their peers.

Day opportunities tailored towards the needs, abilities & ages of those we support

The Base

For learning disabilities and autism

The Hive

For profound and multiple learning disabilities

Both of our services are part of the Essex County Council (ECC) day opportunities framework and commissioned services can be secured for any individual the council is looking to place through a managed service, a direct payment or individual service funds.

We are proud of the pioneering work we are doing with Individual Service Funds which enable us to provide our members with a personal budget managing service that offers much more flexibility than traditional funding.

Every one of our members has their own individual outcome plans that encompasses their needs and personal goals focusing on enablement/reablement, independence, choice, control and progression. We are committed to delivering diverse adult day programs of fun and engaging activities with a strong emphasis on learning life skills, socialising and real life experiences in the community.
