At the Independence Project we pride ourselves on creating opportunities and promoting independence. In fact, within Independence Clubs we have our very own social enterprise that is dedicated to providing work based experience and employment opportunities for young adults with autism and learning disabilities, The Washclub.
In our latest video for Neurodiversity Celebration Week, a number of our members opened up about what neurodiversity means to them. They shared their personal experiences, hopes, and challenges in the world of work, taking the opportunity to have their voices heard and shedding light on why employment is so much more than just a job – it’s about purpose, belonging, and independence.
Why Work Matters
For many neurodivergent individuals, employment represents far more than a paycheck. It’s a gateway to:
