On a day filled with determination and community spirit, members of the Independence Project took to the pool at Riverside Leisure Centre for a sponsored swim in support of Mind Charity. The event was a remarkable success, with participants collectively swimming an astounding 868 lengths—equivalent to 13.5 miles!
The Independence Project, dedicated to supporting children and young adults with additional needs and autism, empowers its members to step beyond their comfort zones and achieve personal milestones. This swim was no exception. For many participants, the physical challenges of swimming and the sensory experiences of being in the water posed significant obstacles. Yet, through resilience and determination, they overcame these hurdles and completed the swim with smiles and pride.

Beyond the impressive physical feat, the event taught our members valuable lessons in confidence, teamwork, and perseverance. The sense of achievement that radiated from each swimmer was truly inspiring, highlighting the profound impact of setting and accomplishing goals.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Riverside Leisure Centre for graciously hosting the event and providing a welcoming and supportive environment. Their collaboration made this incredible achievement possible.
At the time of writing this post the total raised was a whopping £1,460. The funds raised will go towards supporting Mind Charity, aiding their important work in mental health advocacy and support services. The success of this event stands as a testament to the strength and determination of our members and the power of community in making a difference.
Congratulations to all our swimmers for their incredible achievement and thank you to everyone who supported this meaningful cause!
